Bonaire–Invisibles
The Invisibles has made my top five favorite sites at Bonaire. Beautiful Reef’s, bountiful aquatic life, and interesting channels that cut between the reef. When you enter the water like many dive sites you will encounter a sandy bottom without much to see. However as you venture out to the bouy I recommend you drop down about 10 yards before you reach it. If you are slow and careful not to get too close you will find garden eels in the sand before you get to a sandy channel that cuts down through the reef.
One of the reasons I really love this dive site is the sandy channels. The buoy is located where the sandy channel cuts down through the top(first) reef. If you take this channel down you will then come to a crossroads of sorts. There is another sandy channel that runs between the top(first) and bottom(second) reef. If you hang a left at the sandy channel you will come to yet another channel that cuts down the bottom reef. I find this to be like a network of roads that you can navigate. Swimming parallel to the two reefs in the sandy channel if you past the channel on the right that cuts down between the bottom reef you will come to what is known as the largest of the outcrops. It will be on the bottom reef to you left just past the sand channel that cuts down the bottom reef. This is where you will find a huge school of Boga circling above the outcrop.
This outcrop is at a depth of around 80ft so watch your air closely. If you crest over the outcrop the reef continues down to just about 160ft, Watch your air and your depth closely. On the backside of the reef you will find amazing overgrown Corals, Sea Fingers, Sea Plumes, and possibly some File Fish, Moray Eels, and other aquatic life. We will typically dive down to the outcrop and once it’s time to return work out way up the first reef slowly as we head back to the first channel that cuts down the first reef. Here you will typically find various Eels, File Fish, Angel Fish, Frog Fish, Butterfly Fish, possibly Trigger Fish, and if your really lucky a Sea Horse.
Invisibles is located a little South of Salt Pier, it’s actually the second site just beyond. You will see two yellow rocks marking the Entrance and Exit.
